Lower prices drive video comms into ANZ business | Rust Report

LifeSize, a division of Logitech (NASDAQ: LOGI) (SIX: LOGN), found that 85 percent of companies will now consider deploying video conferencing due to the twin combination of competitive pricing and better quality in the actual vendor technology compared to recent years.

That?s according to a survey of companies conducted last month by LifeSize which found that video conferencing communication systems are set to become more prevalent in Australian businesses over the course of the next 12 months.

Desktop video communications also appears to be coming of age in Australia with the poll identifying that 56 percent of companies are currently investigating video conferencing technology for roll out on employee desktops. At the same time, 64 percent of organisations are reviewing an application for video conferencing on employee mobile devices, including tablets as well as iPhone and Android devices.

In terms of physical deployment, the survey found that almost half (49 percent) of all respondents believe that the ideal scenario for video conferencing is a hybrid solution incorporating both premises-based video collaboration solutions and video-on-demand. Almost one in four (19 percent) organisations view a totally cloud-based platform for delivering video conferencing throughout their organisation as the ideal scenario.

The poll also identified the three most popular benefits of video communications: the ability to see who you?re speaking with which respondents believe leads to an increase in the speed of decision making; the ability to cut travel costs by connecting at a moment?s notice with customers, partners and colleagues; and the technology?s ability to increase the number of effective meetings or transactions possible during the average work day.

Finally, the survey found that sales, IT, human resources and marketing teams were currently benefiting most from the application of video conferencing in the workplace today.

Tim Fulton, ANZ Country Manager, LifeSize Communications, said, ?Over the years, we have all heard anecdotal comment on video conferencing but the aim of this survey was to provide real data and estimates into the future. It?s clear that video conferencing continues to grow in maturity as a business process. Each year, more organisations invest in video communications and their level of investment increases over time as they realise the significant financial and human capital returns that the medium provides. The survey would suggest that Australian businesses may have now grasped that video conferencing technology offers a sure way of improving employee productivity with all the benefits of a face-to-face interaction.?
