Melissa McCarthy on ELLE Cover Controversy (Video): Laughs it off as ‘Jacket-gate,’ ‘Walk of Shame’

Melissa McCarthy is not finished laughing off the controversy over her ELLE magazine cover photo which she now calls “Jacket-gate.” The ‘Mike & Molly’ star had one joke after another in her ‘Tonight Show’ interview at the expense of all her critics. Watch the video and find out what she had to say! The 43-year-old Oscar-nominated actress was in rare form, joking with host, Jay Leno about a subject that, as noted, has become quite controversial. It all started when ELLE Magazine put her on its Women in Hollywood cover, and she wore a long, billowing, dark coat. Fine and well, right? Especially as it was a Marina Rinaldi cashmere coat! But there were three other covers, with the other Hollywood stars all clad in much skimpier clothing. Was ELLE trying to cover up the plus-size star? Melissa McCarthy said, “There was a big to-do about it, which kind of made me laugh. How dare someone put me in a $3,000 coat? “That’s terrible!” As for how she wound up wearing the coat, she said, “I wanted to kind of look like the walk of shame…I picked out the coat.
